October 21, 2016 | Cowboy Wrestling
STILLWATER – Oklahoma State wrestling senior Anthony Collica has been selected to compete at the 51st annual National Wrestling Coaches Association All-Star Classic, set for Saturday, Nov. 5 at Cleveland State University's Wolstein Center in Cleveland, Ohio, the organization announced Friday. At 149 pounds, Collica is set to do battle with Lavion Mayes of Missouri.
Â
Ranked No. 4 in the preseason 149-pound rankings, Collica is coming off a junior campaign in which he posted a 29-9 overall record with a 9-4 mark in duals on the way to earning his first career All-America honor and his third straight Big 12 Championship.
Â
Collica will be returning to his hometown of Cleveland to compete at this year's All-Star Classic. The Solon High School product tallied a 170-14 record on the way to three Ohio state championships in his prep career.
Â
Collica and Mayes are no strangers to each other on the mat, with this meeting marking the seventh time the pair have met, with the series between the two currently deadlocked at three wins apiece.
Â
This year signifies the 40th time in 51 events at least one Cowboy has competed at the All-Star Classic. Collica will make Oklahoma State's 90th appearance. Last season, Kyle Crutchmer and Dean Heil represented the Cowboys at the event.
