What The Media Are Saying: Week 7
October 15, 2016 | Cowboy Football
STILLWATER – The Oklahoma State football team has an open week this weekend, but that doesn't mean the 2016 Cowboys haven't appeared in the headlines.
Several Cowboys were featured this week, including OSU's do-everything offensive lineman Michael Wilson, who has started at four of the five spots on the offensive line at some point during his career.
The Oklahoman's Kyle Frederickson wrote about Wilson's versatility and his role in the Cowboy offense this season.
Frederickson also covered the play of quarterback Mason Rudolph this season, writing that "the statistics prove Rudolph's decision making has improved since last year" in an analysis of the sophomore's performance.
The Tulsa World took the opportunity to break down the OSU defensive line after the first half of the season, as Kendrick Marshall gave a positive review. Marshall wrote that, "At the halfway point of the season, the defensive line is among the best in the Big 12 and in the country in sacks."
Marshall's colleague Mark Cooper had another interesting mid-season review, as he took a summary of OSU's bowl predictions from around the country.
Cooper also noted Rudolph's play in the first half of the season, pointing out his outstanding precision and ability to avoid interceptions as one of his biggest strengths. Cooper wrote, "Through six games, Rudolph has 13 touchdowns and two interceptions in 231 passes. His interception percentage is the best among the 22 Football Bowl Subdivision quarterbacks with 200 or more attempts. In 12 career games at Boone Pickens Stadium, Rudolph has 29 touchdowns and four interceptions."
That's just a quick look at what some media have noticed in the first half of the season. The Cowboys begin the second half a week from today, travelling to Lawrence, Kansas, to take on the Kansas Jayhawks. Kickoff for the game is set for 11 a.m. on FS1.
