Cowgirl Duo Named Big 12’s Best

IRVING, Texas – Oklahoma State had a pair of players honored by the Big 12 Conference today as forward Courtney Dike was named the Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week, while goalkeeper Michela Ongaro picked up Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week honors.
Dike and Ongaro helped lead the Cowgirls to an impressive showing last weekend on the road as OSU picked up four points in the Big 12 standings with a 1-0 win at Texas Tech Friday night before a 1-1 draw against Kansas on Sunday.
A senior from Edmond, Okla., Dike collected points in both OSU matches to maintain her status as the conference's leading scorer.
Against Texas Tech, Dike recorded an assist on the game's lone goal in the OSU victory. The assist was her sixth of the season, which ranks second in the Big 12.
In the tie against KU, Dike scored her league-leading eighth goal of the season just 4:15 into the match, a score that marked the third fastest by a Cowgirl this season.
With her three-point weekend, Dike moved into fifth place on OSU's career list in assists (20) and points (78). Her 29 goals is also fifth on the Cowgirls' all-time list.
Dike has now recorded a goal and/or assist in 11 of OSU's 15 matches this season.
Ongaro was stout in goal throughout the weekend, recording 12 saves to move into a tie for the league lead with 59 saves on the season. For the weekend, she allowed just one goal while defending 42 shots and 17 corner kicks.
In the win over Texas Tech, Ongaro collected four saves to post her second shutout of the season and first in Big 12 play. She followed that with eight saves against Kansas, a total that was one shy of her career high.
With the shutout, Ongaro moved into a tie for fourth on OSU's career shutouts list with 11. She also moved up the Cowgirls' all-time saves list, where she now ranks fifth with 174.
Today's awards mark the fourth and fifth weekly honors for OSU in 2016. Dike was also named the conference's top offensive player on Aug. 23 following the season-opening weekend, and it marks the sixth Big 12 weekly honor of her career.
Ongaro joins Julia Lenhardt (Big 12 Freshman of the Week on Aug. 30) and Jaci Jones (Big 12 Freshman of the Week on Sept. 13) as Cowgirls to earn weekly awards for the first time in their careers this season.
