Cowboys In First Through Day One In Colorado

PARKER, Colo. – After the first day of action at the Paintbrush Invitational, Oklahoma State's men's golf team found itself atop the leaderboard at Colorado Golf Club.
Play on Monday, which was slated for 36 holes at the par-72, 7,357-yard layout, was suspended due to darkness. The Cowboys were called off the course with 2-4 holes remaining in their respective rounds.
After opening with a 2-over 290, OSU found itself at 7-under par for the event when play was halted. Texas Tech and New Mexico came in a stroke back with 6-under scores.
Denver's Petter Mikalsen stands at 9-under par to hold a two-shot advantage in the individual race.
Competing individually, OSU junior Kristoffer Ventura opened with a 4-under 68 and finished the day alone in third place at 6-under.
After opening with a 74, sophomore Zach Bauchou came in tied for fifth place at 3-under par in a group that included teammate Stratton Nolen. The junior also opened with a 74.
Like Ventura, Hayden Wood is competing individually and also finished the day tied for fifth place. The sophomore opened with a 2-under 70.
Freshman Viktor Hovland opened with a 69 and finished the day tied for 19th place at even par.
Coming in a stroke off the pace of Hovland was junior Brendon Jelley, who opened with a 75 before finishing the day at 1-over par and tied for 25th place.
Junior Sam Stevens rounded out the Cowboy starting five, posting an opening 73 and coming in tied for 51st place at 6-over par.
