Cowboy Baseball In Top 10 In Pair Of Preseason Polls
January 13, 2016 | Cowboy Baseball
Oklahoma State baseball appeared in the top 10 of two national preseason polls this week, earning a No. 7 ranking from Perfect Game and coming in at No. 8 in the D1Baseball.com rankings.
With its appearance in the preseason polls, which also includes a No. 25 ranking by Collegiate Baseball, OSU extends its streak of consecutive weeks in the national polls to 52 dating back to the 2013 season.
The Cowboys are coming off a 38-20 season in which they made a third-straight NCAA Regional appearance and hosted the tourney as a No. 1 seed for the second consecutive year. OSU also finished second in the Big 12 Conference standings with a 14-8 mark.
Entering its fourth season under head coach Josh Holliday, who is 127-57 in his first three seasons leading his alma mater, OSU returns seven starters from a year ago, including All-Big 12 performers Donnie Walton, Corey Hassel and Ryan Sluder.
On the mound, the Cowboys return a deep and experienced staff as nine pitchers are back from a group that recorded a 2.84 ERA, which ranked eighth in the NCAA last season and was the lowest by an OSU team since 1973.
OSU opens the season Feb. 19 at the UT Arlington Tournament in Arlington, Texas.
