The Significance of OSU's Win Over Central Michigan

STILLWATER – Oklahoma State went on the road to score a 24-13 win at Central Michigan in week one. A look at what the win meant and some of the game's top performers:
The Oklahoma State Win...
• Improved the Cowboys to 19-3 in their last 22 nonconference games.
• Improved the Cowboys to 38-5 in their last 43 games against unranked opponents, dating back to 2010.
• Marked the Cowboys' seventh win in their last eight season openers.
• Improved the Cowboys to 68-41-5 all-time in season openers.
• Improved the Cowboys to 5-0 all-time against teams from the Mid-American Conference
Offense
3 Marcell Ateman
WR | 6-4 | 210 | Jr. | Dallas, Texas/Wylie East
Marcell Ateman caught four passes for 75 yards and a touchdown to help Oklahoma State to a 24-13 win at Central Michigan. The touchdown was the first of Ateman's career. After a review of the game film, the OSU coaches judged Ateman to be the Cowboys' offensive standout of the game.
Defense
96 Vincent Taylor
DT | 6-3 | 300 | RSo. | San Antonio, Texas/James Madison
The preseason narrative about the Oklahoma State defensive line was that defensive ends Emmanuel Ogbah and Jimmy Bean would be playmakers, but the Cowboys were not as solid on the interior. Sophomore defensive tackle Vincent Taylor did his part to change that narrative in the Cowboys' week one victory at Central Michigan, as he set career highs with five tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss and a sack. Only once last season did any OSU player record more than two tackles for loss in a game.
Special Teams
24 Miketavius Jones
CB | 5-10 | 175 | RSr. | Houston, Texas/North Shore
After a breakdown of the game film, the Oklahoma State coaching staff tabbed Miketavius Jones as the special teams MVP of the Cowboys' win at Central Michigan. Though Jones did not record any tackles, he stayed on assignment and forced Chippewa return men into situations where they were tackled by other OSU players. Now in his fifth year in the program, Jones has been a valuable member of OSU special teams units for years and should see his role increased greatly this season.
