Loevnes Named Big 12 Runner of the Week
September 29, 2015 | Cowgirl Cross Country & Track
IRVING, TEXAS – Cowgirl junior Ingeborg Loevnes has been named as the Big 12 female runner of the week, the conference announced Tuesday.
With a third place finish at the Cowboy Jamboree on Sept. 26, Loevnes led the Cowgirls to their sixth-straight team title.
Her 21:17.5 was the third best time of the day in the 6,000 meters behind two Alabama runners. It was the second meet this season where Loevnes was the top Cowgirl finisher, as she won the Cowboy Preview back in week one.
The junior from Fetsund, Norway, had never competed in cross country coming into 2015, but she made her presence known last year as a newcomer to the track and field program by breaking a 10 year 3,000-meter steeplechase record by nearly 20 seconds.
Texas senior Brady Turnbull earned the male Big 12 Runner of the Week honor.
The Cowgirls jumped one spot to 27th in the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association's week three poll.
Next on the schedule for Loevnes and the Cowgirls is the Crimson Classic in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, on Oct. 16.
