OSU Set For 79th Cowboy Jamboree
September 24, 2015 | Cowboy Cross Country & Track, Cowgirl Cross Country & Track
STILLWATER – The Oklahoma State cross country team will host the 79th annual Cowboy Jamboree Saturday at the OSU Cross Country Course.
The Cowboys and Cowgirls welcome 31 colleges and universities and nearly 500 athletes to their home course in one of the biggest regular season cross country meets of the year.
OSU has not competed since the Cowboy Preview on Sept. 1, yet the Cowboys remain the No. 1 team in the Midwest region and are led by Cowboy Preview champion Cerake Geberkidane. The Cowgirls have held steady at No. 3 in the Midwest region following Ingeborg Loevnes' strong performance and win at the Cowboy Preview and a Cowgirl sweep of the top four finishers.
The Cowboys remain the fifth ranked team in the nation and the Cowgirls have moved up two spots to 28 since the dominant debut at the Cowboy Preview.
The Cowboys and Cowgirls come into the Jamboree having won the last five team titles at the event. With a win on Saturday, the Cowboys will have the third longest win streak in Jamboree history behind Arkansas who won it seven consecutive times in the 1980s, and eight consecutive years between 1975 and 1982.
At the 2014 Jamboree, former Cowboy Kirubel Erassa took first place in the men's 8K race, while Monika Juodeskaite won the women's 5K race for the Cowgirls.
The 79th annual Cowboy Jamboree will begin Saturday at 8 a.m., and the event is free to the public. Results and a full recap will be available online at okstate.com.
