STILLWATER, Okla. – The Oklahoma State football team completed its sixth practice of fall camp Sunday morning at the Sherman E. Smith Training Facility. After practice, receivers coach Kasey Dunn shared his thoughts on the session:
On today's practice:
"It was good. I mean, it was probably a little bit slower today than it had been the first few days. We're starting to get a little bit deeper into camp. You have to do a little bit of dragging guys along, but for the most part, it was good."
On if the receivers are further along in camp at this point compared to last season:
"There's no question. There's a little less teaching from me as far as plays are concerned, and a lot more fundamentals. That's good. We can start to move forward and get those guys coached up on other things rather than just where to line up or where you're running on your route. Now, we're actually working more on the intricate nuances of route running and things like that. We'll be better."
On the value of the group's most experienced receivers:
"Critical. Absolutely critical. It not only has to do with the experience they bring on game day, but also the help they bring with the young guys. You've got receivers lined up all across the field, and I can't see our outside and right outside guys at the same time. So, I count on those guys to be my eyes out there. [David] Glidden is coaching up the lineman, coaching up routes and talking to all of those guys. What they're bringing to the table every day, as far as leadership is concerned, is awesome. I really appreciate what they're doing."
On the group's strengths aside from experience:
"I'd probably say competitiveness. The first thing that jumps out is, when we go to one-on-one, it's an all-out war with our defensive backs. They're a very competitive group too, so it's great work for us. The second thing, I would say, is that no single receiver has put himself as 'the guy.' Everybody is more in tune to the unit and the strength of that group as a whole. I really appreciate that, too. Nobody is singling himself out or saying, 'I need more balls, and I need more opportunities'. In fact, it's quite the other way. They're always saying, 'Hey man, you've got this rep here. Get after it and play.' If someone scores a touchdown, the rest of the group is out there celebrating, even though that guy has made a move toward becoming a starter. It's real competitive. Everybody wants to start, but at the same time, they're working together. That's big."
