Cowgirls Open Preseason Practice
August 07, 2015 | Cowgirl Soccer
STILLWATER, Okla. — Oklahoma State returned to the pitch Friday morning for the first 2015 preseason practice at the Cowgirl Soccer Complex.
The Cowgirls' roster includes 27 players, including 17 returning letterwinners from last year's squad that finished 10-10-1 and advanced to the NCAA Women's Soccer Championship for the second consecutive year.
Among the group of returners are four All-Big 12 performers in seniors Allie Stephenson and Madison Mercado and juniors Natalie Calhoun and Courtney Dike. Led by Stephenson, who paced the Cowgirls with six goals a year ago, OSU returns 95 percent of its goal scoring from 2014. Also back in the mix is goalie Michela Ongaro, who missed last season with a knee injury after recording four shutouts in 14 games as a freshman two years ago.
"We are excited to be out there, and we have a good group," OSU head coach Colin Carmichael said. "The energy level on the first day is always great so they were getting after each other and competing. Our job now is just to make sure that continues on into preseason."
OSU will host SMU in a preseason exhibition match next Friday at the Cowgirl Soccer Complex before opening the regular season at home against Mercer on Aug. 23.
