STILLWATER, Okla. – Wearing shoulder pads for the first time this season, the Oklahoma State football team completed its third practice of fall camp Thursday morning at the Sherman E. Smith Training Facility. After practice, offensive coordinator Mike Yurcich shared his thoughts on the day:
Offensive Coordinator Mike Yurcich
On practice:
"It was better than the first day. We're just looking for improvement every day. I felt we improved, but there's going to be ups and downs throughout camp and it's a gradual process. Our guys understand that. It's a fun time because it's just football and we get plenty of meeting time with them and plenty of walk-throughs and run-throughs and team sessions, so it's a fun time of year."
On what he wants to accomplish in the first week:
"Overall improvement. First and foremost, ball security – making sure that we're taking care of the football, making sure that we're in no bad plays and playing with tempo."
On if he can work faster installing the offense with a more experienced group:
"You've got to be careful there. It's always a balance of, you want to get enough in and there's always a fine line of doing too much. You've got to flirt with that borderline a little bit; that threshold, and see what the guys can do. Then be able to evaluate that on tape and have discussions with the staff and be able to take it from there."
On if the quarterbacks have had to shake off any rust:
"Day one was rusty, no question. There was some mental mistakes and some coverage recognition issues, but today was much better. It's going to be a process, but we're going to gradually get better every practice. That's why we have practice."
