Cowgirl Soccer: Looking Back & Ahead

Oklahoma State opened its 2015 season with a 2-0 win over Mercer last Sunday in Stillwater and will return to action with a pair of home games this weekend against Bedlam-rival Oklahoma and Georgia.

Mercer Highlights
- Scoring goals for the Cowgirls were sophomore Holly Brehmer and freshman Haley Woodard. The scores marked the first-career goals for each player.
- Goalie Michela Ongaro returned to the pitch for the first time since 2013 after redshirting last season with a knee injury. The sophomore recorded a pair of saves and notched her fifth career shutout.
- Four Cowgirls played all 90 minutes — defenders Kelsey Bass, Delaney Kiely and Natalie Calhoun and midfielder Christina Jean-Charles.
- Four players made their OSU debuts — freshmen Haley Woodard, Marlo Zoller and Morgan McDougal and junior Christina Jean-Charles.Â

- OSU outshot Mercer by a 26-3 count, including a 15-0 margin in the first half.
- The Cowgirls owned a 10-0 advantage on corner kicks.

Stars of the Match
           There were numerous impressive performances by the Cowgirls, but OSU head coach Colin Carmichael called Marlo Zoller the best player on the field and OSU's most dangerous forward and also praised Kelsey Bass for her work rate, energy level and willingness to attack on the flank (she tied for the team lead with three shots on goal).
Up Next
- OSU welcomes rival Oklahoma to the Cowgirl Soccer Complex Friday night for a 7:00 kickoff. The game will be a non-conference affair, with the two teams battling again in Norman on Oct. 30 in the regular season finale that will count in the Big 12 standings.
- The Cowgirls are 20-4-3 all time against the Sooners. The two teams split a pair of games last season.
- OU is coming off an NCAA Tournament appearance in 2014 but is 0-2-0 this season after double overtime losses, both by 2-1 scores, to Furman and 11th-ranked South Carolina last week.
- Georgia is also coming off an NCAA tourney berth a year ago. The Bulldogs opened the '15 season under first-year head coach Billy Lesesne with a pair of road contests last weekend, battling High Point to a scoreless draw and dropping a 4-0 contest to Wake Forest.
- Sunday's match against Georgia, which kicks off at 1 p.m., is the first meeting between the two programs.
