Cowboys’ Run At U.S. Amateur Comes To An End

OLYMPIA FIELDS, Ill. — Oklahoma State's men's golf team saw its run at the U.S. Amateur Championship come to an end on Wednesday with a pair of 5-and-4 losses in the first round of match play at Olympia Fields Country Club.
The Cowboys, who had four players in the field, saw sophomore Sam Stevens and junior Zachary Olsen advance to the 64-player match play bracket.
Stevens' setback came at the hands of Alex Burge, while Olsen was eliminated in the round of 64 by Will Zalatoris.
Stevens advanced to match play with a 141 total that included rounds of 70 and 71. His 1-over score tied him for 27th place.
Olsen tied for 36th place during the stroke play portion of the event, posting scores of 73 and 69 for a 142 tally.
Senior Jordan Niebrugge and redshirt freshman Hayden Wood both missed the cut. Niebrugge finished at 6-over 146 after posting a pair of 73s, while Wood carded rounds of 78 and 74 for a 152 total.
