One of five newcomers to the Oklahoma State program in 2015 is Haley Woodard, a 5-foot-11 freshman forward from Norman, Okla.
Â
Woodard joined the program after a standout prep career at Norman North High School, where she was a three-sport star who received college scholarship offers for soccer as well as basketball and track & field. As a senior, she focused soley on soccer, knowing it was the sport she wanted to play at the collegiate level.
Â
Among Woodard's long list of prep sports accomplishments are:
• Scored 44 goals and 23 assists during her soccer career, including recording 22 goals and 10 assists as a senior
• Led NNHS to the Class 6A state soccer championship as a junior
• Starred as a sprinter in track and was the Class 6A state champion in the 400-meter dash as a freshman and a state champ in the 200- and 400-meter dash as a sophomore
• Led NNHS to the Class 6A state basketball tournament in 2013 and 2014, averaging 13.6 points per game as a junior in '14
Woodard's favorite part of soccer is the relationships built with teammates, and she discussed the chance to do that with her new OSU teammates during a preseason retreat in the video above. She also shares her affinity for Michael Jordan — which is why she wears the number 23 for the Cowgirls — and talked about being blessed with speed that OSU head coach Colin Carmichael says often makes her the fastest player on the field.Â
