August 16, 2015 | Cowboy Golf
OLYMPIA FIELDS, Ill. — Four members of the Oklahoma State men's golf team will be in action this week at the U.S. Amateur Championship at Olympia Fields Country Club.
Senior Jordan Niebrugge, junior Zachary Olsen, sophomore Sam Stevens and redshirt freshman Hayden Wood will all be in the field this week at the historic venue.
The 312-player field will navigate 36 holes of stroke play with 18 holes being played both Monday and Tuesday. The field will be narrowed to 64 players for match play, which will get underway on Wednesday and conclude with Sunday's 36-hole final. Olympia Fields' North Course, a par-70, 7,234-yard layout, will serve as the site for match play.
Niebrugge already has one USGA title to his credit after winning the 2013 U.S. Amateur Public Links Championship. Earlier this summer, the Mequon, Wis., native captured the silver medal as low amateur at The Open Championship.
Olsen was a quarterfinalist at last year's event at Atlanta Athletic Club's Highland Course.
Four Cowboys have hoisted the Havemeyer Trophy as the U.S. Amateur champion with Peter Uihlein (2010), Labron Harris, Jr. (1962), Bob Dickson (1967) and Scott Verplank (1984) all winning the event.
