July 09, 2015 | Cowboy Football
WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – Oklahoma State kicker Ben Grogan has been named to the preseason watch list for the 2015 Lou Groza Collegiate Place-Kicker Award, the Palm Beach County Sports Commission announced Thursday.
Grogan, a junior entering the 2015 season, was one of 20 semifinalists for the Groza Award last season and is one of 10 returning kickers in the country who made more than 20 field goals at a rate of 75 percent or higher last year. The Arlington, Texas, native ranked ninth nationally with 1.69 field goals made per game and made 20 of his last 23 attempts, highlighted by a game-winning 21-yarder in overtime to lift OSU to victory over Oklahoma in Norman. His 22 field goals made last year rank as the third-best single-season mark in school history.
Grogan's longest kick of his career to date was a 47-yarder vs. UTSA last season. He was perfect on 41 PAT tries in 2014 as he led the team in scoring and ranked 34th nationally with 107 points on the year.
Kickers on the Lou Groza Award Watch List were chosen based on statistics from the 2014 season and 2015 expectations. All 10 FBS conferences are represented among the 30 kickers, including four from the Big 12.
Semifinalists for the Groza Award will be announced Nov. 5, 2015, with three finalists unveiled Nov. 23. The winner will be announced as part of the Home Depot College Football Awards Show held on Dec. 10. The 24th Annual Lou Groza Collegiate Place-Kicker Award, presented by the Orange Bowl Committee, recognizes the three finalists during an early week celebration in Palm Beach County, culminating with a banquet at the Palm Beach County Convention Center on Dec. 7 prior to joining ESPN in Atlanta.
