Freeman and Glover each go in top 10 rounds
NEW YORK -- Oklahoma State had a pair of pitchers selected on the second day of the 2015 Major League Baseball Draft Tuesday.
Michael Freeman was the first to hear his name called as the senior southpaw was taken in the seventh round with the 199th overall pick by the Houston Astros. In the eighth round, Cowboy junior right-hander Koda Glover was chosen by the Washington Nationals with the 254th overall selection.
The selection of Freeman and Glover marks the first time since 2011 that Oklahoma State has had two players drafted in the top 10 rounds of the MLB Draft. In the '11 draft, Cowboys Chris Marlowe (5th round) and Mike Strong (10th) were both top-10 round selections.
Freeman enjoyed a breakout 2015 campaign in which he earned Big 12 Conference Pitcher of the Year and All-America honors after going 10-3 with a 1.31 ERA in 15 starts. He also racked up 97 strikeouts in 109.2 innings, and opponents hit just .184 against him.
A native of Broken Arrow, Okla., Freeman spent two seasons in an OSU uniform and was 12-4 with a 1.89 ERA in 25 appearances, including 16 starts.
Glover, who hails from Poteau, Okla., is coming off his first season in an OSU uniform after two years in the junior college ranks. In 23 relief appearances for the Cowboys, the hard-throwing righty was 2-2 with five saves and a 1.90 ERA, and he recorded 28 strikeouts in 23.2 innings of work.
In addition to Freeman and Glover, Oklahoma State signee Corey Zangari of Carl Albert High School in Midwest City was drafted in the sixth round by the Chicago White Sox.
The 2015 MLB Draft concludes Wednesday with rounds 11-40.
