STILLWATER -- Just a day after winning five championships at the Big 12 Outdoor Championships, the Cowboys and Cowgirls both appeared in the
United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association week seven rankings.
The Cowboys jumped back into the national rankings to No. 20, joining five other Big 12 programs and making the Big 12 the second-most represented
conference in the NCAA, behind the SEC's nine top-25 teams.
In the women's rankings, the Cowgirls dropped three spots to No. 21. The Cowgirls still sit ahead of No. 22 Oklahoma and No. 25 Kansas, but Big 12
outdoor and indoor champion Texas is the highest ranked of the seven Big 12 programs at No. 6.
Two weeks out from the NCAA regional meets, both squads have eight marks in top-10 of the Midwest region, including two No. 1 marks on the men's
side and one on the women's.
John Teeters' 100-meter time of 9.98* from the Big 12 Championships is the fastest 100 in the region, and Chad Noelle's 3:38.35 is not only the No. 1
time in the region, but also in the NCAA and the No. 2 American time in the world this year.
Seven-time Big 12 Champion Kirubel Erassa has the No. 2 time in the 1,500, the No. 2 time in the 10,000-meter run and the No. 3 time in the
5,000-meter run in the region. Erassa's 3:39.05 in the 1,500 is the third fastest time in the NCAA.
The Cowgirls own the three best Midwest region times in the 800-meter run.
The 2013 national champion, Piliusina, is first with a 2:01.93, two-time All-American Kaela Edwards has the No. 2 time with a 2:02.63 and 2015 Big 12
champion Savannah Camacho is third with a 2:03.70. All three of those times were run at the Payton Jordan Invitational on May 2.
Piliusina also has the No. 4 time in the 1,500, just behind fellow Cowgirl Caileigh Glenn whose 4:19.34 is the No. 3 time in the region.
The University of Texas will host the 2015 West Regionals May 28-30. Top qualifiers from the meet in Austin will qualify for the National Championships in Eugene, Ore, held June 10-13. The official entries are expected to be released later in the week.
