Levi, Hetherington, Kehl win events
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. -- The Oklahoma State track and field team traveled to the Arkansas Twilight meet in Fayetteville, Ark., on the hunt for NCAA
qualifying times in one of the last meets before the Big 12 Championships.
"We came away with seven personal bests today, so we had a good day overall," assistant coach Mason Cathey said. "We were good in all event
areas, which is great considering it's dead week and they've been focusing on studying so much. It says a lot that they can balance the student
athlete life well."
Cowboy standout Itamar Levi won the men's shot put for the fourth time this season throwing a 17.90m. It was the third time in 2015 that Levi had
thrown 17.90m or better. The other two times were also at John McDonnell field where the Arkansas Twilight was held.
"It wasn't quite at his career best, but it was a big win for him," assistant coach Mason Cathey said. "It just shows how consistent he's been for us
this season."
Katie Kehl started the day off with a win for the Cowgirls in the discus throw. Kehl's mark of 45.74m was a whole 20 feet better than the second
place finisher.
Abbie Hetherington broke her personal best by two seconds in the 800-meter run to claim the Cowgirls' second win of the meet. Her 2:08.68 won
her the event by less than three-tenths of a second over her Cowgirl teammate, Anna Boyert, who also broke her personal best in the event.
Hetherington's time and Boyert's 2:08.93 are the seventh and eighth best times in the Big 12, which now gives the Cowgirls six of the top-10 times
in the conference this season.
In the men's 800, Lance Gray also broke his personal best by running a 1:51.38 and finishing seventh in the race, but fifth among NCAA athletes.
His time moves him from the 22nd best mark in the conference to 11th, just behind OSU sophomore Timauntay Jones.
"Lance is a senior who's been chugging away for us all season," Cathey said. "He's been a great leader on our team and to see him PR today was
just fantastic."
Ambra Wesley ran what would have been the eighth fastest 400 in school history when she finished the race in 56.11, but Wesley already owns a
55.87, which is currently seventh. She finished fourth in the race and was followed by Stephanie Ferrante who finished sixth and Danielle Coleman
who took ninth.
Decathlete Cole Verble managed to grab career bests in the 110-meter hurdles when he finished fourth in the open race in 17.43. Verble set his
previous career best of 18.19 on the same track back on March 28. He also competed in the long jump and recorded a 6.22m jump.
With the one-day meet in Fayetteville ending, a different set of Cowboys and Cowgirls will take the track Saturday at the Payton Jordan
Invitational, another one-day meet in Palo Alto, Calif., the last regular season meet for OSU.
