Last Time Out
The Oklahoma State track and field team competed at both the John Jacobs Invitational in Norman, Okla., and the Mt. SAC Relays in Southern
California Saturday, highlighted by a personal-best performance from Kaela Edwards in the 800 meters and a first-place finish from John Teeters
in the 100-meter dash.
Teeters ran in his first 100-meter dash of the season and looked just as sharp as the last time he ran outdoor race for OSU at the 2014 NCAA Championships.
Teeters, the school record-holder in the event, ran a 10.20 in his season debut, winning the final and picking up 10 points for the Cowboys in the team competition.
Teeters' time is third in the Big 12, a conference that now holds three of the 10 fastest times in the NCAA this year, more than any other conference. His mark is ninth in the NCAA this season.
Edwards set a personal best and claimed the third fastest 800-meter time in school history at the Mt. San Antonio College Invitational. She ran in the elite heat of the race and finished seventh with a time of 2:03.28.
In a field of mostly professional athletes, Edwards had the top NCAA-eligible time in the competition.
Edwards was the national runner-up in the indoor running of the 800. Her time is the best in the Big 12, just ahead of fellow Cowgirl Savannah Camacho, and it is third in the NCAA and second in the West region.
Three OSU top-10 marks were set in the women's 400-meter dash in Norman when Stephanie Ferrante, Summor Fields and Danielle Coleman finished fourth, fifth and sixth, respectively.
Ferrante finished the race with the eighth-fastest 400-meter dash in school history. She cruised to a fourth place finish in the event, running a 56.48. Fields and Coleman also ran in the 400, finishing in 56.51 and 56.87, respectively, with the ninth and 10th fastest times in school history.
In California, Kaylee Dodd and Bailey Johnson each had top-10 Big 12 times, Friday. Dodd finished 10th in the open running of the 800-meter run in 2:08.28, and Bailey Johnson's season best time of 1:01.12 in the 400-meter hurdles earned her 19th place in the event. Dodd's time is sixth in the conference, which now gives the Cowgirls four of the top six 800 times in the Big 12. Johnson's mark is good for seventh.
Chase Ealey won another women's shot put competition, giving the Cowgirl her fourth top-three finish in four meets this season. Her throw of 16.45m/53-11.75 was two feet better than the second place finisher and would be the third-best mark in the conference if Ealey weren't already
No. 1.Â
A Look Back
Oklahoma State sent three athletes in the to the 2014 Drake Relays last year in search of NCAA-qualifying marks in the 3,000-meter steeplechase.
Anthoney Armstrong ran a 9:13.06 and finished 12th in the event, and Nick Thorp and Brigham Hedges finished 21st and 22nd in the event with times of 9:37.00 and 9:53.45, respectively.
Cowgirls Achieve Highest Rank Ever
The Oklahoma State Cowgirl track and field team jumped two spots to No. 11 in this week's United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association poll.
OSU hurdled Stanford and Florida State to claim the highest rank in school history. OSU remains the fourth highest ranked Big 12 team, but is just
one spot behind Kansas State and two spots behind Baylor. Indoor Big 12 champion Texas is the No. 3 team in the country.
The men's team didn't fare so well in the week three rankings. The Cowboys fell two spots to No. 17.
Individually, the Cowboys are well represented in the Midwest region. John Teeters has the top mark in the men's 100-meter dash with a 10.20, and Chad Noelle (3:43.80) and Kirubel Erassa (13:45.83) hold No. 2 marks in the 1,500 and 5,000-meter runs, respectively.
Kaela Edwards and Ieva Zarankaite also own top marks for the Cowgirls. Edwards' 2:03.28 800-meter time is No. 3 in school history, the best in the big 12 and the third best in the NCAA this season.
Zarankaite's 54.13m heave in the discus throw back in March has stood as the No. 1 throw in the Midwest region since then, and it is the second-best mark in the Big 12 by less than a meter.
Ealey, Loevnes No. 1 in School History
Chase Ealey set a new school record in the women's shot put on March 21 at the Tulsa Duels. Just one week later at the 88th Texas Relays,
Ealey threw a 16.84m/55-5.50 in just her first throw in the competition to break her own school record in the event.
Ealey's performance gives her the top spot in three events -- the outdoor and indoor shot put and the javelin.
Earlier in the indoor season, Ealey also set the record for the indoor shot put and qualified for nationals where she received second-team
All-America honors.
Ealey's mark is currently the best in the Big 12 and seventh in the NCAA this season.
Joining Ealey this season in the record books is Cowgirl newcomer Ingeborg Loevnes.
The Norwegian middle-distance runner shattered a 10-year-old school record in the 3,000-meter steeplechase when she ran a 9:56.30 at the
Stanford Invitational on April 3.
Loevnes' time is 11 seconds faster than the previous school record, and it is currently the fastest steeplechase time in the Big 12. Her time is also
the fourth fastest time in the NCAA this season and has qualified her for the NCAA Western Regionals in June.
Nick Miller Shines for Great Britain
At the Stanford Invitational on April 4, Oklahoma State All-American Nick Miller threw for his home country of Great Britain in the men's hammer
throw competition and won the event by throwing the eighth-best mark in the world this year.
Miller's heave of 75.41m/247-05 was 24 feet better than the next best throw and would have trounced the OSU school record that Miller currently
owns if he hadn't thrown unattached. It would also be the best throw in the NCAA by more than 14 feet.
Miller is the youngest thrower in the world top-10 in the hammer throw, and now holds the fifth-best hammer throw mark in British history as well as
the British record for the indoor weight throw, which he set at the 2014 NCAA Indoor Championships and is also the OSU weight throw record.
Miller is redshirting this season to prepare for the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.
The OSU track and field squads are back in action at the Drake Relays this weekend. The relay teams will be on display in Des Moines, as seven
teams of four prepare to take on a challenging field.
