Last Time Out
Day two of the John McDonnell Invitational featured three Indoor All-Americans making their season debuts, the Cowboys and Cowgirls recording 13 top-five finishes and the Cowboys winning five events.
The men's 4X100-meter relay team dashed to a first-place finish by running the third-fastest time in the Big 12 this season. Sharod Selph, Tyler Jackson, Arlando Brewer-Johnson and John Teeters sprinted the four legs in 40.10, edging Arkansas by eight-hundredths of a second and recording the 10th-best mark in the NCAA West region this season.
The relay race was Teeters' first taste of outdoor competition this season, but his day wasn't done as he also ran in the third heat of the 200-meter final. His 20.86 gave him the victory by nearly a full second.
Teeters' debut time is fourth in the Big 12, 10th in the West region and 15th in the NCAA.
The sprinters continued to shined for the Pokes as Brewer-Johnson set a personal best in the 100-meter dash final, running a 10.58, winning his heat and finishing third overall. Selph joined Brewer-Johnson in the 100 and also represented well for the OSU program. He ran a 10.60 and finished fourth in the event.
OSU was also well represented in the men's 1,500-meter run, as five Cowboys finished in the top-10 and four of them finished in the top five.
The Cowboys swept the top-four and were led by All-American Chad Noelle, who won the 1,500 in 3:43.80. A trio of Cowboys, Matthew Fayers, Justin Vilhauer and Anthoney Armstrong, finished behind Noelle in second, third and fourth, respectively.
Noelle's mark is the best in the Big 12 and fifth in the NCAA this season.
In the women's 4X400-meter relay, the OSU team of Stephanie Ferrante, Kaela Edwards, Danielle Coleman and Ambra Wesley finished fourth, running the sixth fastest race in school history.
Edwards went on to run the open 400-meter run, which was her outdoor season debut and her first time running the event as a Cowgirl. She finished the race in 55.26, good enough for ninth place and sixth all-time in OSU history. Her mark is also seventh in the Big 12 this season. Chase Ealey continued her successful junior season, taking third in the women's shot put with a throw of 16.39m/53-9.25.
A Look Back
Oklahoma State's Chad Noelle, John Teeters and Shadrack Kipchirchir each registered top-five marks in the NCAA in their respective events at the Mt. SAC Relays, last year.
In the elite division of the men's 1,500 meters, a field stacked with 10 runners who were either professional or ran unattached to a university, including former OSU eight-time All-American Tom Farrell, Noelle grabbed the victory with a time of 3:40.06. Noelle's time ranked No. 2 in the nation at that time, and is still the fourth-best 1,500 meters in OSU history.
In the 100 meters, Teeters ran a wind-legal 10.14, which was a personal best for him, the No. 3 time in the NCAA in 2014. Teeters' competition also consisted of professional and unattached runners along with other NCAA competitors.
In the elite division of the 5,000 meters, Shadrack Kipchirchir finished in 13:37.68, which was not only good enough for 10th in the event, but also No. 5 in the NCAA. His time is the seventh-best mark in OSU history.
On the women's side, Monika Juodeskaite won the Olympic Development division of the 5,000 meters, with a personal-best mark of 16:00.32. Her time ranks No.3 in OSU history.
Camacho's run in the women's 800, a 2:02.84, earned her second place in her heat, behind a professional runner, and ninth in the event. Her time ranked No. 3 in the NCAA in 2014 and is still the second-best 800 meters in school history.
Cowboys, Cowgirls Stay in Top-15
Both the Cowboys and Cowgirls track and field teams held firm at their spots from a week ago in the second United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association top-25 of the 2015 outdoor season.
The Cowgirls remained at 13 and the Cowboys held on to the No. 15 spot for the second-straight week. It is the third consecutive poll with both teams in the top-15.
A successful season debut for Oklahoma State All-Americans Chad Noelle and John Teeters has earned the two Cowboys top-five marks in the Midwest region. Teeters' 20.86 200-meter dash is fourth in the region, while Chad Noelle's 1,500-meter time of 3:43.80 is second in the region and 13th in the NCAA.
The Cowgirls have eight top-five regional marks, and Natalja Piliusina has two of them. The NCAA champion is third in both the 800-meter run (2:06.05) and the 1,500-meter run (4:20.18). Piliusina's 800-meter time is eighth in the NCAA and her 1,500 is 18th.
Savannah Camacho and Ieva Zarankaite own No. 1 marks in the region, as Camacho's 2:04.59 is the top 800 time and fifth-best among collegiate women, and Zarankaite's discus throw of 54.13m leads the Midwest region and is 14th in the NCAA.
Cowgirl newcomer Ingeborg Loevnes' school record setting time of 9:56.30 in the 3,000-meter steeplechase is the second-best time in the NCAA.
Ealey, Loevnes No. 1 In School History
Chase Ealey set a new school record in the women's shot put on March 21 at the Tulsa Duels. Just one week later at the 88th Texas Relays, Ealey threw a 16.84m/55-5.50 in just her first throw in the competition to break her own school record in the event.
Ealey's performance gives her the top spot in three events -- the outdoor and indoor shot put and the javelin.
Earlier in the indoor season, Ealey also set the record for the indoor shot put and qualified for nationals where she received second-team All-America honors.
Ealey's mark is currently the best in the Big 12 and fourth in the NCAA this season.
Joining Ealey this season in the record books is Cowgirl newcomer Ingeborg Loevnes.
The Norwegian middle-distance runner shattered a 10-year-old school record in the 3,000-meter steeplechase when she ran a 9:56.30 at the Stanford Invitational on April 3.
Loevnes' time is 11 seconds faster than the previous school record, and it is currently the fastest steeplechase time in the Big 12. Her time is also the second fastest time in the NCAA this season and has qualified her for the NCAA Western Regionals in June.
Nick Miller Shines For Great Britain
At the Stanford Invitational on April 4, Oklahoma state All-American Nick Miller threw for his home country of Great Britain in the men's hammer throw competition and won the event by throwing the eighth-best mark in the world this year.
Miller's heave of 75.41m/247-05 was 24 feet better than the next best throw and would have trounced the OSU school record that Miller currently owns if he hadn't thrown unattached. It would also be the best throw in the NCAA by more than 14 feet.
Miller is the youngest thrower in the world top-10 in the hammer throw, and now holds the fifth-best hammer throw mark in British history as well as the British record for the indoor weight throw, which he set at the 2014 NCAA Indoor Championships and is also the OSU weight throw record.
