TULSA, Okla. - Oklahoma State's men's golf team closed play at the Big 12 Championship on Wednesday with a 286 tally to move into fifth place at Southern Hills Country Club.
The Cowboys' 6-over score gave them a 52-over total of 1,172 and put them a stroke out of fourth place, which was claimed by Iowa State. Texas posted a 10-over total of 1,130 en route to a 24-shot victory at the par-70, 7,151-yard layout.
UT's Scottie Scheffler finished with a 73 to finish at even-par 280 and three strokes clear of the field in the individual race.
OSU was led by Jordan Niebrugge, who followed his third-round 70 with a 1-under 69, to move up eight spots into a tie for fifth place at 8-over 288. The Cowboy junior countered bogeys at the second and the fifth with birdies at the fourth and the ninth to turn at even-par 35.
He dipped under par on his inward nine with a birdie at the 13th before a bogey at the 16th moved him back to level for the day. After carding a par at the 17th, Niebrugge drained a 70-foot birdie at the 18th to get to his 1-under score for the day.
"The last two rounds were satisfying. I hit it a lot better than the first round. I didn't get many putts to go today and I hung in there. It is the kind of course where you don't get many opportunities, but I hung in there and ended up getting one at the last, which was nice," Niebrugge said.
Sophomore Zachary Olsen, who closed with a 35-foot birdie putt at the 18th with Niebrugge in the fairway, finished with a 74 to get in with a 293 total and tied for 16th place.
Brendon Jelley's low round of the event came on Wednesday. The redshirt freshman posted a 72 to finish at 298 and tied for 24th place.
Freshman Kristoffer Ventura also signed for his best score of the tournament, posting a 71 to tie for 32nd place at 302.
Senior Tanner Kesterson turned in his second consecutive 76 to finish at 304 and in sole possession of 35th place.
