Cowboy defender becomes 18th draft pick of Mike Gundy era.
STILLWATER -- Oklahoma State's Josh Furman was selected Saturday by the Denver Broncos with the 35th pick of the seventh round of the 2015 NFL Draft.
Furman, who played linebacker at Oklahoma State and projects as a safety in the NFL, becomes the 18th draft pick of the Mike Gundy coaching era. His selection also marks the seventh-consecutive year at least one Cowboy has been chosen in the NFL Draft and the sixth time the Denver Broncos have drafted a player from OSU.
"Couldn't be more excited for Josh Furman," coach Mike Gundy said. "He has worked extremely hard and last season finished among the top sack leaders in the Big 12. Furman has come a long way in a year with the OSU family."
After graduating from Michigan as a two-year letter winner, Furman had one year of eligibility remaining and elected to play his final collegiate season at Oklahoma State.
In his lone season as a Cowboy, Furman ended the year as OSU's fourth leading tackler with 64 tackles and 50 solo stops. He ranked second on the team with seven sacks and 14 tackles for loss, which rank among the Big 12 leaders in those statistics as well.
Furman, who played in every game last season and started all but one, had perhaps his best game against Iowa State as he recorded 10 tackles and two sacks. Another highlight came when he made a late interception and returned it 35 yards to seal a Cowboy victory at Kansas.

At OSU's annual Pro Day in March, Furman turned in four marks that would have ranked in the top five among safeties at the 2015 NFL Combine. His 40-time (4.47) would have been fourth, his vertical (38 in.) would have been third, his broad jump (124 in.) would have been fifth and his 60-yard shuttle time (11.40) would have been fourth.
Furman is the second fifth-year transfer in as many years to play at Oklahoma State and find immediate opportunity in the NFL, as cornerback Tyler Patmon made a name for himself with the Dallas Cowboys last year after excelling at OSU during the 2013 season.
