STILLWATER - The 2011 season was a special one for Oklahoma State football, with one of the most memorable moments coming via a 44-10 win over Oklahoma to seal the Cowboys' Big 12 title.
The Cowboys' season was their best in school history and included a 12-1 record, a Fiesta Bowl win and ranking among the top three in the final polls, to go along with the conference title.
OSU's win over Oklahoma was a dominating performance. Joseph Randle ran for 151 yards and two touchdowns, Richetti Jones returned a fumble for a score and the Cowboy defense, which led the nation in takeaways, forced five turnovers by the Sooners.
Brandon Weeden connected with Tracy Moore for 53-yard play, finished by Jeremy Smith on a 9-yard touchdown run to open the scoring and the Cowboys never looked back.
Cornerback Broderick Brown picked off a Landry Jones pass in the endzone to stop OU from scoring and then Alex Elkins later forced a fumble on a sack that Jamie Blatnick picked up and returned 59-yards to set up another Cowboy score via a Randle 1-yard run.
The Cowboys continued pouring it on with another Randle score on the ground, Jones' fumble return and 37-yard touchdown run from Jeremy Smith. Quinn Sharp also hit three field goals on the day.
It was the Cowboys second-highest margin of victory in the series, second only to a 47-0 shutout in 1945.
With the 44-10 win, Oklahoma State clinched its first-ever Big 12 Conference championship. It was the first conference title for the Cowboys since they were co-Big Eight champs in 1976 and their first outright conference championship in the post-World War II era.
