Jelley Repeats At OGA State Amateur

EDMOND, Okla. — Oklahoma State's Brendon Jelley repeated as champion on Wednesday at the Oklahoma Golf Association State Amateur Championship, posting a 3-and-2 victory over Jeff Coffman in the championship match at Oak Tree National.
A rising sophomore, Jelley became the first player to repeat as champion of the event since Joe Nick did so in 1992 and 1993. Since the tournament's inception in 1910, only seven players had previously won on consecutive occasions.
In the final match, Jelley opened with a win at the first to grab a 1-up lead before Coffman answered with a birdie at the second. After three halves in a row, Coffman took his only lead of the day by claiming the sixth. Jelley answered with win at Nos. 7, 8 and 9 before winning the 11th to grab a commanding 3-up lead with seven holes remaining.
Coffman won the 12th, but would get no closer. After three consecutive halves, Jelley took the 16th to close out the match.
