Oklahoma State currently has 20 former players on professional baseball rosters, including a pair of big leaguers in Pittsburgh shortstop Jordy Mercer and Los Angeles Angels pitcher Andrew Heaney. Two ex-OSU stars are MLB managers — Robin Ventura of the Chicago White Sox and John Farrell with the Boston Red Sox.
Andrew Heaney, Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim – OSU Career: 2010-12
Heaney was called up to the Angels on June 24 and has excelled as a member of the Los Angeles rotation. In five starts, the southpaw is 4-0 with a 1.57 ERA and has recorded 27 strikeouts and only four walks in 34.1 innings. He has not given up more than two runs in a game and no rookie starting pitcher in the majors has more wins without a loss this season than Heaney. For more on Heaney, click here.

In 80 games this season, his fourth in the big leagues, Mercer is hitting .242 with two home runs, 14 doubles and 19 RBIs, and over his last 30 games, his average is .266. He also owns a .981 fielding percentage and has committed just seven errors on the year.
