Collica Wins University Nationals Title

AKRON, Ohio -- Oklahoma State wrestler Anthony Collica won the 70-kilogram freestyle bracket at the 2015 United World Wrestling University Nationals tournament on Sunday afternoon. It was his first championship performance at the event.
Collica, who just completed his sophomore campaign with the Cowboy Wrestling squad, took out 2014 NCAA champion Jason Tsirtsis in the finals with a controlling 6-1 win. Tsirtsis struck first with a push out, but it was Collica who finished strong, putting together six unanswered points. Collica went 6-0 in the event.
The Pokes also had two other placers at the tournament.
Junior Austin Schafer made it to the 97 kg finals, where he faced Iowa's Nathan Burak. Schafer was bested with a 12-1 technical fall. On his road to the finals, Schafer recorded four technical falls in his five wins.
Also competing at 97 kilos was Preston Weigel, who picked up a sixth-place finish. Weigel fell in the semifinals and injury defaulted the rest of the tournament.
Dalton Moran also represented the Cowboys at the championships, wrestling at 70 kg.
