Cowgirl Soccer All-Time Team: Defender

Lauren Colwell, 2002-05
The Oklahoma State Cowgirl soccer program will mark its 20th season in 2015. As we celebrate two decades of milestones, OSU head coach Colin Carmichael and assistant coach Karen Hancock, both of whom have been with the program since its inception and built it into a national power, collaborated on a list of the top players in Cowgirl soccer history. We'll reveal the top 11 daily on www.okstate.com over the next two weeks, and today we highlight the first of four Cowgirl defenders.
Â
Lauren Colwell – Tulsa, Okla. (2002-05)
Colwell holds the distinction of being the first player in OSU soccer history named to the All-Big 12 Conference First Team, earning those honors in 2003. The Jenks High School product played in 81 games in her four seasons with the Cowgirls and started 79 of those. She finished her career with three assists, and her lone collegiate goal was a game winner against Texas State in the 2005 season opener.
Â
Colwell was also part of Cowgirl team history in 2003 as she helped lead OSU to its first-ever Big 12 championship by winning the conference tournament, thus securing the program's first trip to the NCAA Tournament.
Â
During Colwell's career, she helped establish the OSU program as a consistent winner. Her senior class (2005) was the first in school history to record a winning record in each of its four seasons.
Â
Along with her All-Big 12 First Team honors in 2003, she was an All-Big 12 Second Team pick in 2004 and a member of the Big 12 All-Newcomer Team in 2002. She also earned a spot on the NSCAA All-Central Region Third Team in 2003.
Â
Colin Carmichael on Lauren Colwell: "Lauren was one of the quickest, fastest players that we've ever had. She was about 5-2, 5-3, but you didn't realize how small she was because she played a lot bigger and with a huge heart and was very aggressive. She really came in as an athlete and left as a very, very good soccer player. She could play any position across the back and even being as small as she was, she even played center back for us which was quite amazing."
