Two Cowboys Elected To Hall of Fame

STILLWATER, Okla. - Two members of the Oklahoma State men's golf program will be among the Oklahoma Golf Hall of Fame's inaugural class it was announced this week.
Bob Dickson and Mike Holder were among the six honorees to receive the distinction.
After earning honorable mention All-America status in 1964, Dickson captured first-team honors for the Cowboys in 1965 and 1966. He won both the U.S. Amateur and British Amateur in 1967, becoming the first man since Lawson Little in 1934 and 1935 to do so.
The McAlester, Okla., native was an Oklahoma High School state champion three times before his arrival in Stillwater. Dickson won Oklahoma State Amateur titles in 1965 and 1966 as well as Oklahoma Open crowns in 1966 and 1971 and was a member of the 1967 Walker Cup squad.
In 1968, Dickson began a 10-year career on the PGA Tour, where he won twice.
Holder was a three-year letterwinner at Ardmore (Okla.) High School where he was conference medalist in 1966. In 1968, he won the Oklahoma Amateur Championship.
After earning honorable mention All-America status in 1968 for the Cowboys, Holder was twice named a third-team All-American, receiving the distinction in 1969 and 1970. He took medalist honors at the Big Eight Championship in 1970.
Holder began his 32-year stint as OSU's golf coach in 1973, winning eight national titles and producing more than 100 All-Americans. During his tenure, the Cowboys posted 178 tournament titles and 99 runner-up finishes.
Joining the duo in the first class will be Charlie Coe, Perry Maxwell, Gil Morgan and Bill Spiller.
The class will be inducted on Oct. 25 at the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum in Oklahoma City. Ticket information will be available closer to the event at www.oklahomagolfhof.org. A fundraising golf tournament for the new Hall of Fame will be held June 3 at Oak Tree National in Edmond.
