Cowgirls Close Out Spring Season Friday
April 14, 2015 | Cowgirl Soccer
STILLWATER, Okla. -- Oklahoma State will conclude its spring exhibition season Friday when the Cowgirls host Tulsa at 7 p.m. at the Cowgirl Soccer Complex.
Head coach Colin Carmichael's Cowgirls are 6-1 on the spring and have outscored their opponents by a 21-3 margin while producing six shutouts.
OSU is coming off its lone loss of the spring last Saturday in Kansas City where the Cowgirls suffered a 3-1 setback against Missouri. Laurene Tresfield scored the lone OSU goal in that contest, but two second-half goals lifted the Tigers to the win.
"We've had a very productive spring and have gotten the chance to see a lot of different girls play minutes," Carmichael said. "Spring is a great opportunity for us as coaches to evaluate some of our less experienced players as well as to develop and improve our veterans. We've seen a lot of positives, and there's always plenty of room for improvement.
"Our game against Missouri really allowed us to see some top competition from a team that made the second round of the NCAA Tournament last season. We had some really good spells within the game, but we need to be able to continue our good play for longer periods. Our ball retention and possession was very good, but we did not create enough chances at the end of it. Defensively, we need to be better 1 v. 1 in wide areas and also need our clearances from our own 18-yard box to be better."
Admission to Friday's match against Tulsa is free. OSU defeated the Golden Hurricane during the 2014 season by a 2-1 count in a match played in Stillwater.
"We are looking forward to what should be a very tough match against Tulsa," Carmichael said. "They gave us a real battle last fall, and we had to dig deep to win the match late. We are hoping to play well and end the spring season on a high note."
