STILLWATER -- Dressed in full pads, the Oklahoma State football team held its seventh practice of spring ball Monday at the Sherman E. Smith Training Facility. After the approximately two hour-long session, defensive line coach Joe Bob Clements shared his thoughts:
On Monday's practice:
"I thought it went well. Coming off the weekend I thought they were a little bit fresher. They had some spirit to run around quite a bit. We're kind of getting to that half-way point of spring ball where they're more excited about the end than they are necessarily excited about spring ball itself, but I thought the enthusiasm was good and I thought they got better today."
On the competition on the interior defensive line after losing Castleman and Hautau:
"It's definitely there right now. I've got quite a few guys that are vying to make that replacement. Obviously those two guys leaving leaves a void for us in the middle -- not just because of their ability, but because of their toughness and just their experience in the game. I like what the guys are doing that are trying to replace them."
On the redshirt freshmen:
"It's been feast or famine. A lot of times they're running around like they don't know what they're doing, but they're working hard. They're getting better and each and every practice we have before our first game, we're going to need."
On his goals for the defensive line in the rest of spring practice:
"Just get better every day. If we keep doing that and they keep practicing with the effort they've been practicing with and we keep focusing on the little things and we make little improvements every day, we'll be where we need to be going into the summer. Not necessarily where we need to be before the first game, but we'll be where we need to be going into the summer."
