Cowgirls Edged in 4-3 Match with Texas Tech

LUBBOCK, Texas -- Oklahoma State's women's tennis team lost its second conference match this season, falling 4-3 to No. 20 Texas Tech on the road on Sunday afternoon.
After the No. 9 duo of Viktoriya Lushkova and Kelsey Laurente fell to Kilgo/Talaba in the doubles portion, the No. 11 Cowgirls (15-4; 2-2 Big 12) rebounded strong, winning matches on courts two and three.
No. 72 Katarina Adamovic and Vladica Babic defeated Kiro/Federici, 6-0, and Maria Alvarez and Carla Tur Mari bested Dvorak/Jackson, 7-6(4).
In singles, Texas Tech responded by winning the first three matches. Gabriela Talaba defeated No. 110 Kelsey Laurente 6-0, 6-2, Kenna Kilgo defeated No. 15 Viktoriya Lushkova 6-3, 6-1 and Katelyn Jackson defeated Maria Alvarez, 5-7, 6-1, 6-4, on courts two, one and six, respectively.
With their backs against the wall, the Cowgirls won the next two matches to even the score at 3-3.
Carla Tur Mari was the first Cowgirl to pick up a singles victory as she defeated No. 122 Sabrina Federic in three sets, 7-6(4),1-6, 6-3.
Vladica Babic was the second victorious Cowgirl. She defeated No. 60 Lynn Kiro on court four, winning the first set, 6-3, and taking a decisive third set, 7-5.
On court three, No. 85 Katarina Adamovic was defeated by No. 90 Sarah Dvorak to give Texas Tech the 4-3 match victory. Dvorak won the first set, 6-4, but Adamovic responded with a 6-3 victory in the second set. In the third set, Dvorak won on a tiebreaker 7-6(1).
"It's tough to lose matches like today when it comes down to a few points," coach Chris Young said. "We have to just keep getting back to work and keep getting better."
OSU continues with Big 12 competition when it hosts Oklahoma at the Greenwood Tennis Center on Friday at 5 p.m.
