STILLWATER - The Oklahoma State football team held its annual Pro Day inside the weight room at Boone Pickens Stadium and the Sherman E. Smith Training Center Thursday, with 13 former Cowboys working out in front of representatives from 27 NFL teams.
Among the athletes working out were 12 players from last year's squad, as well as former Cowboy defensive end Tyler Johnson.
Josh Furman, who played linebacker at Oklahoma State and projects as a safety in the NFL, had perhaps the biggest day of the group. Furman turned in four marks that would have ranked in the top five among safeties at this year's NFL combine. His 40-time (4.47) would have been fourth, his vertical (38 in.) would have been third, his broad jump (124 in.) would have been fifth and his 60-yard shuttle time (11.40) would have been fourth.
"I've worked for three months for this," Furman said. "It's kind of like a job interview that I've worked all my life for so I had to show out. I just wanted to show people what I've been doing at Oklahoma State - working out with the strength staff preparing for the Pro Day. I just wanted to show the younger kids that came out here that were my teammates that anything is possible and to keep working at it."
Defensive tackle James Castleman, who showed a trimmer frame at 299 pounds, showcased his athleticism best in several position drills done for NFL scouts.
"They were excited to see my athletic ability," Castleman said. "A lot of people don't understand that I can do things most people my size can't. I like to be the underdog and show them that I can do that. They said they were impressed with how I did with that and how I came out and attacked today."
Other notable marks from the day included defensive tackle Ofa Hautau's 28 reps on the bench press, fullback Teddy Johnson's 27 bench press reps and Furman's L-drill time of 6.98 seconds.
