Game Notes
► Saturday's game marked the first time Oklahoma State has lost to West Virginia since the Mountaineers joined the Big 12 for the 2012-13 season.
► The game was won in the second half, where West Virginia outscored the Cowboys, 48-38. WVU shot .500 pct. from the field in the second half, while OSU committed seven turnovers after halftime.
► West Virginia made 10 of its 20 attempts from three-point range.
► Four Cowboys scored in double figures: Le'Bryan Nash (12 points), Anthony Hickey (11 points), Phil Forte (10 points) and Michael Cobbins (11 points - his most in a Big 12 game this year).
► Phil Forte (16.5 ppg entering the game) attempted only three field goals in the game, thanks largely to the way West Virginia defenders never left him.
► Thanks to its full-court pressing, trapping defensive style, West Virginia entered the game ranked No. 1 nationally in both steals (11.8 per game) and turnover margin (+8.2). WVU recorded five steals against Oklahoma State and held a +2 turnover margin (13 to OSU's 15)
► West Virginia outrebounded the Cowboys, 37-20 and held an 18-4 advantage on the offensive glass. The Mountaineers entered the game leading the nation with 17.1 offensive rebounds per game.
► Fouls plagued both teams in the game, as Oklahoma State and West Virginia committed 27 fouls apiece for a combined total of 54 fouls in the game.
► Oklahoma State started the game on a 13-4 run, thanks largely to its defense. The Cowboys limited West Virginia to 1-for-9 shooting and forced five turnovers in the first eight minutes of the game. Additionally, OSU knocked down three three-pointers during that span.
► Oklahoma State endured a scoring drought that lasted six minutes and four seconds at one point of the first half. During that span, West Virginia went on a 9-0 run.
► It took until the 6:29 mark of the first half until either Le'Bryan Nash or Phil Forte scored a point for Oklahoma State.
► West Virginia's standout point guard, Juwan Staten, picked up his second foul with 8:40 left in the first half and the score tied at 13. He did not play for the remainder of the half, but OSU was unable to capitalize, as the two teams went into the locker room at half tied at 25. Staten was back on the floor in the second half and finished with 22 points and seven assists.
► Neither team shot all that well in the first half, with West Virginia going 8-of-25 from the field (.320 pct.) and Oklahoma State going 8-for-20 from the field (.400 pct.)
► West Virginia started the second half on a 23-10 run and opened up a 48-35 lead with 10:22 left. The run was fueled by defense and hot shooting from the Mountaineers, who forced OSU into committing five turnovers and converting on 2-of-7 attempts from the field. During that same span, WVU was 7-for-13 from the field and 4-of-5 from three-point range. From then on, West Virginia kept OSU at bay to preserve its win.
Streaks and Trends Through the West Virginia Game
