Game Notes
► Including Wednesday's game, seven of the last eight meetings between Oklahoma State and Iowa State have been decided by five points or less.
► The game was abnormal for Oklahoma State in that its two leading scorers - Le'Bryan Nash and Phil Forte - combined to go 7-for-24 from the field (.291 pct.), yet the Pokes hung around and hung around. The rest of the Cowboys combined to go 14-for-23 (.609 pct.) from the field.
► The two teams were tied at 33 at halftime. Iowa State enjoyed its first-half success on the offensive glass and in the paint, whereas Oklahoma State did its damage from three-point range. The Cyclones held an 18-4 points-in-the-paint advantage and an 11-3 advantage in second-chance points. OSU converted on six of its 10 attempts from three-point land. OSU was led by Jeff Newberry (10 points) and Anthony Hickey (10 points) in the first half.
► The Cyclones led by as many as seven points in the first half, but the Cowboys closed the half on a 15-8 run to tie the game going into the locker room.
► The two teams exchanged blows from the bulk of the second half. Oklahoma State held a four-point lead with 2:25 left until Iowa State went closed out the game on a 9-0 run to win it.
► Led by center Jameel McKay, Iowa State dominated on the offensive glass. McKay hauled in nine of the Cyclones' 18 offensive rebounds in the game. ISU held a 21-6 advantage over OSU in second-chance points.
► Iowa State entered the game ranked ninth in the nation by converting on .491 pct. of its field goals on the year. OSU held the Cyclones to .393 pct.
► Jeff Newberry scored 12 points on 5-of-6 shooting from the field. Including his performance against the Cyclones, Newberry has now scored in double figures in each of the last four games. Prior to that, he averaged 5.7 points per game on the year.
► Anthony Hickey scored 12 points. He has reached double-figure scoring totals in five of his last six games.
► After not scoring in double figures for the first time in 17 games last time out at TCU, Phil Forte returned to form, scoring 13 points against Iowa State.
► Le'Bryan Nash missed each of his first eight field goal attempts, finally breaking through for his first bucket with 13:51 left in the game. He finished with 13 points.
