Cowboys Third At The Prestige

LA QUINTA, Calif. - Oklahoma State's men's golf team opened play on Monday at The Prestige at PGA WEST with a 280 to stand alone in third place at the Nicklaus Tournament Course.
The Cowboys' 8-under total was one shot behind Arizona State for the runner-up spot at the par-72, 7,2-94-yard layout. Stirling University grabbed the lead with a 12-under 276 tally.
ASU's Jon Rahm stood atop the individual leaderboard after the first round of play with a 6-under 66.
Zachary Olsen led the Cowboy starting five with a 67, tying him for second place. The sophomore put together a bogey-free round en route to his 5-under tally. Olsen got his day underway on the back nine and recorded his first birdie of the day at the par-5 11th. He added another at the 18th to turn at 2-under 34. After moving to 3-under with a birdie at the fourth, Olsen closed with birdies at Nos. 8 and 9 for his low round of the year.
Olsen was joined in the top 10 by freshman Kristoffer Ventura and junior Jordan Niebrugge. Ventura fired a 4-under 68 to finish tied for fourth, while Niebrugge posted a 3-under 69 to come in tied for eighth place.
Freshman Sam Stevens signed for a 76 to finish tied for 64th place. Sophomore Wyndham Clark's 77 tied him for 71st place.
Competing individually, senior Tanner Kesterson also carded a 77 during his first round.
The Cowboys will get their second round underway at 9 a.m. (PST) tomorrow and will be grouped with Arizona State and Stirling.
