February 01, 2015 | Cowgirl Basketball
AMES, Iowa - Oklahoma State's Brittney Martin buried a jumper with one second remaining to give the Cowgirls a 63-62 win over Iowa State on Saturday in front of 11,320 fans inside Hilton Coliseum.
The victory halted OSU's four-game losing streak and gave the Cowgirls (13-7 overall, 3-6 Big 12) back-to-back wins in Ames for the first time since consecutive victories in 1995 and 1996.
OSU led for the majority of the first half, building its lead to as many as eight before taking a 36-31 lead into the halftime locker room.
A free throw from senior Liz Donohoe pushed the lead to nine two minutes into the second half before the Cyclones (14-6, 5-4) hit OSU with a 12-2 run to move back in front with 13:50 to go. After Iowa State pushed the margin to four with just under 10 minutes to go, the Cowgirls got a 3-pointer from Donohoe and a layup from Martin to move back in front.
A pair of Iowa State free throws tied the game for the 10th time and put the Cyclones in front at 62-61 with one minute remaining. After Donohoe missed a jumper with 37 ticks remaining, sophomore Roshunda Johnson got a steal with eight seconds left, but had her fastbreak layup blocked out of bounds at the other end with six seconds left.
After a missed eight-foot jumper from senior LaShawn Jones, the ball was again knocked out of bounds, forcing the Cowgirls to inbound under their own basket.
Johnson found Martin in the middle of the lane, who then found the bottom of the net with the game winner.
Johnson and Jones paced OSU with 14 points apiece, while Donohoe finished with 12 and Martin added 10 points and 12 rebounds.
Bryanna Fernstrom led Iowa State with 23 points.
