Cowboy Wrestling Freshmen Show Off at Bob Smith Open

HAYS, Kan. – Four Oklahoma State true freshmen wrestlers in Nick Piccinnini, Kaid Brock, Tristan Moran and Andrew Marsden earned titles at the Bob Smith Open over the weekend.
Marsden had a big day, winning all five of his matches with first-period falls at 197 pounds. In the finals, he defeated Cody Vigoren of Wyoming in 2:30. His fastest fall of the day came in just over one minute against Ouachita Baptist's Austin Hailey in the first round.
Kaid Brock kept his perfect record in tact, also recording five wins with bonus points—three technical falls and two falls. Brock took out Martin Ramirez of Adams State in the 133-pound finals with a 20-4 tech fall.
At 125 pounds, Nick Piccininni improved to 13-3 on the season. The freshman earned four wins with one tech fall and one major decision. In the finals, he tallied a 6-1 win over Wyoming's Drake Foster.
Tristan Moran defeated teammate Dusty Hone in the 141-pound finals with a tight 6-4 decision. En route to the finals, Moran also defeated fellow Cowboy Mike Magaldo in the semifinals, 10-1. Moran finished the day with two major decisions and two falls.
After losing in his first bout of the day, junior Ben Laures stormed back to finish third at 197 pounds.
Also competing at the event was Eli Hale (125) and Tyler Mann (165).
The Cowboys continue the season this weekend, traveling to Norman, Okla., to take on the Sooners on Sunday.
