December 09, 2015 | Cowboy Football
STILLWATER – The 2015 All-Big 12 Conference football teams were announced Wednesday with six Oklahoma State players on the list, including standout defensive end Emmanuel Ogbah as the Co-Defensive Player of the year. Selections were made by the league's 10 head coaches, who are not permitted to vote for their own players.
Ogbah, who shares the Defensive Player of the Year Award with Baylor's Andrew Billings, is joined on the first team by cornerback Kevin Peterson and Cowboy back Blake Jarwin. OSU's second team honorees include receiver James Washington, defensive end Jimmy Bean and safety Jordan Sterns.
This is the first time an Oklahoma State player has won the Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year Award, but OSU's 18 individual Big 12 awards rank fourth in the conference's 20-year history. Ogbah was also named the 2014 Big 12 Defensive Lineman of the Year.
This also marks the second-straight year Ogbah has received first team honors on the All-Big 12 team and the first time the rest of the Cowboys on the list have been honored as all-conference performers. Ogbah was one of only four players who was unanimously voted onto the first team.
Ogbah has been one of the most dominant players in the country this year and has already been recognized as a USA Today All-American, a Ted Hendricks award finalist, a Walter Camp Award semifinalist, a Bednarik Award semifinalist and a Lott IMPACT Trophy semifinalist, in addition to numerous player of the week honors on the conference and national level.
The nation's active leader in career sacks with 28, Ogbah also leads the Big 12 and ranks fourth nationally with 13 sacks this season, and he leads the Big 12 and ranks 14th nationally with 17.5 tackles for loss.
Additionally, 12 Cowboys were listed as honorable mentions for the all-conference team and awards, including Mike Gundy (Coach of the Year), Jordan Burton (Defensive Newcomer of the Year and linebacker), Darrion Daniels (Defensive Freshman of the Year), David Glidden (receiver), Ben Grogan (kicker), Michael Hunter (Defensive Newcomer of the Year), Seth Jacobs (linebacker), Jeremy Seaton (fullback), Zach Sinor (punter), Vincent Taylor (defensive lineman), Chad Whitener (linebacker) and Ogbah (Defensive Lineman of the Year).
