Cowgirls Remain Unbeaten With 78-54 Win Over UTRGV

STILLWATER, Okla. – Oklahoma State women's basketball extended its winning streak to seven after defeating Texas-Rio Grande Valley 78-54 on Saturday afternoon in front of 2,332 fans inside Gallagher-Iba Arena.

With the win, OSU improves to 7-0 on the season while UTRGV drops to 5-5.

In the first quarter, senior Brittney Martin made her second jumper of the game to break a 5-5 tie and from that point on the Cowgirls wouldn't give up the lead.

Martin was driving force for the Cowgirls in the first quarter, scoring 14 points and grabbing five rebounds as she continued her climb up the OSU record books. Her second rebound of the game moved Martin past Liz Donohoe and into fifth place in program history. Martin's 11 field goals also move her into ninth place and just three behind Tiffany Bias for eighth most in program history.

Martin finished the game with her 21st career double-double after scoring 26 points and grabbing 12 rebounds. She has recorded at least seven rebounds in every game so far this season.

Senior Roddricka Patton dished out a game-high eight assists and eight different Cowgirls scored at least five points in the win.

The game also marked the first career start for Alana Simon. The junior scored eight points, brought down two rebounds and set a career high with three assists.

OSU continued its excellence on the glass, as it outrebounded UTRGV 48-32. The Cowgirls have outrebounded each of their seven foes by double figures this season.

The Cowgirls also held UTRGV to just 32 percent shooting for the game. It is the sixth time this season that they have held their opponents under 40 percent shooting. Â

OSU will complete its four-game homestand on Dec. 14 when the Cowgirls take on North Carolina at 7 p.m. inside Gallagher-Iba Arena.
