Nowak, Loevnes Named Scholar Athletes of the Year
December 10, 2015 | Cowboy Cross Country & Track, Cowgirl Cross Country & Track
IRVING, Texas – Oklahoma State senior Craig Nowak and Cowgirl junior Ingeborg Loevnes have each been named the recipient of the Big 12 Scholar Athlete of the Year Award in cross country, the conference announced Thursday.
Nowak earned the honor for men's cross country scholar athlete of the year following his final Cowboy cross country season and his third Academic All-Big 12 honor.
As a member of the OSU squad, Nowak helped the Cowboys to their eighth-consecutive Big 12 team title in October, and earned his third consecutive All-Big 12 honor with a sixth-place finish at the meet.
Loevnes made an instant impact in her debut season as a Cowgirl cross country runner, leading OSU to their second-highest finish in NCAA Championships history. Her 4.0 grade point average earned her the honor of being a first-team academic all-conference selection and one of just 16 athletes to post a perfect GPA.
Along with finishing third and taking Big 12 Newcomer of the Year at the Big 12 Championships, she finished 35th at her first NCAA Championships race and earned All-America honors.
Nowak and Loevnes become the third and fourth scholar athletes to come from OSU in four years, and first since Chris Perry took the wrestling honor in 2014. It is the first time since 2013 that a single school has swept the cross country scholar athletes of the year.
