TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Oklahoma State receiver James Washington was added to the watch list today for the 2015 Biletnikoff Award, The Tallahassee Quarterback Club Foundation, Inc., announced.
Washington has sprung onto the national scene lately, reeling off three-consecutive games with at least 100 receiving yards. In OSU's 49-29 win over No. 5 TCU Saturday, he finished with 184 yards and three touchdowns, including plays of 74, 50 and 48 yards. It was the most yards TCU has allowed to any receiver this season, as the sophomore hauled in two catches for 98 yards and two touchdowns in the first nine minutes of play.
In the game prior to that Washington tallied a career-high 200 receiving yards at Texas Tech with two 70-plus yard touchdown plays in the fourth quarter alone, earning the Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week honor for his performance.
In the end of that game and the beginning of the TCU game, Washington scored four touchdowns on consecutive touches, with gains of 75, 73, 48, and 50 yards (246 yards total).
The Stamford, Texas native now leads the nation with three 70-plus yard receptions and ranks 11th nationally with 21.4 yards per catch. He has totaled 772 yards and seven touchdowns on 36 catches this year, setting a career-high with seven receptions against Kansas State. He also earned OSU's offensive player of the game honor after recording 103 yards on six catches in the first half vs. Kansas and leads the Cowboys' NCAA top-10 scoring offense with 782 all-purpose yards.
The Biletnikoff Award is presented annually to the college football season's outstanding receiver, and anyone who catches a pass, regardless of position is eligible to win the award. The 2015 award winner will be announced live on Dec. 10 on ESPN's The Home Depot College Awards show, at 7 p.m. (EST), at the College Football Hall of Fame in Atlanta. The recipient will be honored and will receive his trophy at the Biletnikoff Award banquet in Tallahassee, Fla., on Jan. 30.
