OSU Wrestling Wins Nine Titles in Owasso

OWASSO, Okla. – Oklahoma State's wrestling team dominated at the Oklahoma College Open on Saturday, claiming nine of ten possible titles.

Eddie Klimara won the 125-pound bracket and did it in style as he set an OSU record in his opening bout, pinning Vic Beloch of Bacone in only three seconds. The previous record for fastest fall was held by Connor Baxter with a five-second fall in 2012. Klimara continued with a solid performance and was pitted against teammate Nick Piccininni in the finals. In his closest match of the day, Klimara took the win over Piccininni with a 9-7 decision.

Cowboy Eli Hale took fourth place at 125 pounds.

At 133 pounds, true freshman Kaid Brock won his second-consecutive collegiate tournament, taking out two fellow Cowboys en route to the win. Brock met up with Kyle Garcia in the semifinals, who he edged in a high-scoring 14-10 bout. He moved on to the finals, where faced NCAA qualifier Gary Wayne Harding. Brock emerged victorious once again with a 10-4 win.

Garcia went on to finish fourth, falling to OSU's Brian Crutchmer in the third-place bout, 10-7.

2015 All-American at 141 pounds, Dean Heil earned three wins on the day, all with bonus points attached. Heil started his tournament with a first-period fall and followed it up with a 20-1 technical fall in the semifinals. In the finals, he went against Tristan Moran, who he earned a big win over with an 11-2 major decision.

Finishing third at the weight was redshirt freshman Dusty Hone.

Winning at 149 pounds was junior Anthony Collica, who started the event with back-to-back falls, both in the first period, before defeating Davion Jefferies of Oklahoma, 13-7, in the finals. Jonce Blaylock produced a third-place finish.

Another true freshman claimed a title as Joe Smith outlasted teammate Ryan Blees in the 157-pound finals, 8-2. Smith found himself in the finals after defeating redshirt freshman Chance Marsteller in the semis, 7-3. Marsteller went on to a third-place finish in the event.

Two-time NCAA Champion Alex Dieringer surrendered only six points on the day, winning the 165-pound title with ease. In his first bout, Dieringer stuck Northeastern Oklahoma's Saul Ortiz in the first period. In the semifinals, he put up a 21-6 technical fall followed by a 16-0 shutout over NEO's Dawaylon Barnes in the finals.

The two wrestlers representing OSU at 174 pounds found themselves face-to-face in the bracket's final as Kyle Crutchmer cruised his way to the finals by way of two falls to face Chandler Rogers, who also put up a solid performance. Crutchmer, an NCAA All-American, walked away with the 9-3 victory.

At 184 pounds, Jordan Rogers defeated Nolan Boyd in the finals with an 11-7 decision. Earlier in the day, Rogers tallied three pins, two of them in under 35 seconds. Prior to the finals, Boyd had only given up two points on the day.

The 197-pound bracket was the only one that did not have a Cowboy champion; however, Austin Schafer did represent the Pokes in the finals taking on Oklahoma's Brad Johnson, but was defeated 8-3. Andrew Marsden and Ben Laures battled it out for third place with Marsden claiming a fall in 3:34 over Laures.

Austin Marsden, a 2014 All-American for OSU, made his way to the heavyweight finals, where he met up with teammate Tanner Allen. Marsden put on a dominating performance, shutting down Allen with a 16-0 technical fall to earn the heavyweight title.

Also competing at the event was Zac Gentzler (125), Donald Cannon (125), Lincoln Olson (133), Lincoln Lemon (141), Davey Dolan (149), Hestin Lamons (157), Dalton Moran (157), Tyler Mann (165), Luke Bean (184), Landry Chappell (184), Preston Weigel (197), Garrett Beier (285).

The Cowboys open their dual season on Nov. 14 against the Iowa Hawkeyes inside Iowa's Kinnick Stadium at 11 a.m.
