Cowgirls Open Big 12 Tourney Play vs. West Virginia

Oklahoma State opens play in the 2015 Big 12 Conference Soccer Championship Wednesday at 11:30 a.m. against West Virginia at the Slope Soccer Village in Kansas City, Mo.

Here's a quick primer for Wednesday's match.

• OSU is the tourney's No. 8 seed. The Cowgirls are 9-8-2 overall and finished Big 12 play with a 2-4-2 mark.

• West Virginia comes to Kansas City on a 15-match unbeaten streak. Ranked No. 2 in the national polls, the Mountaineers are 15-1-1 overall and won their fourth consecutive Big 12 championship with a 6-0-1 league finish.

• The two teams met in Stillwater on Oct. 23 with West Virginia emerging a 2-1 winner in overtime. Niki McKnight scored her first-career goal for the Cowgirls in that game, and it marked one of only five goals the Mountaineers have allowed this season.

• OSU is 15-7-3 all time at the Big 12 Soccer Championship and will be in search of the program's fourth conference tournament title this week. The Cowgirls won the tourney in 2003 (3-2 double overtime triumph vs. Missouri), 2009 (1-0 over Texas A&M) and 2010 (won PK shootout vs. Oklahoma after 1-1 tie).

• WVU has won the last two Big 12 Championship titles and is 5-1-1 all time at the tourney.

• OSU and WVU have met once before at the Big 12 Championship, that coming in the 2013 final with the Mountaineers earning a 1-0 win.
