INCHEON, South Korea — Former Oklahoma State All-American Rickie Fowler teamed with Jimmy Walker during Thursday's foursome matches at the Presidents Cup, rolling to a 5-and-4 victory over Anirban Lahiri and Thongchai Jaidee at Jack Nicklaus Golf Club.
After the first day of competition, the U.S. holds a 4-1 lead over the International squad.
"I feel like we all fed off each other and it was a really good start to the week. We have a lot of work ahead of us," Fowler
After halving the first hole, the duo got rolling with birdies on the next three holes to build a 3-up lead. After the International side won the fifth, the next four holes were halved to send the Americans to the back nine holding a 2-up lead.
Fowler and Walker birdied Nos. 10 and 11 to build the lead to 4-up before Lahiri and Jaidee won their final hole of the day at the 12th. The Americans won the 13th with a birdie before the 14th was conceded for the victory and put the first point of the day on the board for the U.S.
Fowler, who is playing in the competition for the first time and has made two Ryder Cup appearances, earned his first full point in either event with the victory.
Fowler and Walker will be paired again for Friday's four-ball matches and will take on Danny Lee and Sangmoon Bae.
