The 2015 season added to the long and storied history of Oklahoma State baseball, with the list of Cowboy accomplishments under third-year head coach Josh Holliday a long one. Over the next few months, we're looking back at some of the most memorable moments and impressive feats turned in by the '15 ballclub. Today we salute an OSU pitching staff that recorded the program's lowest ERA in more than four decades.
OSU Pitchers Post Best ERA By A Cowboy Staff In 42 Years
You would have to go back to 1973 to find an Oklahoma State pitching staff that turned in a lower earned run average than the 2015 Cowboys.
Under the tutelage of pitching coach Rob Walton, the OSU staff posted a 2.84 ERA, which ranked eighth in the NCAA in 2015 and was the lowest since the '73 Cowboys finished with a miniscule ERA of 1.93.
Other notables:
• OSU's 2.50 ERA in Big 12 Conference-only games was the lowest in the league, and Big 12 opponents hit just .230 against the Cowboys.
• The Cowboys averaged 7.73 strikeouts per nine innings and recorded five shutouts. Opponents hit only .235 against them.
• Consensus All-American and Big 12 Pitcher of the Year Michael Freeman ranked sixth in nationally with a 1.31 ERA, which also ranks as the fifth lowest in a single season in OSU history.
• Freeman was one of six Cowboy pitchers with at least 12 appearances who recorded an ERA of 3.65 or better.
• Trey Cobb's 31 appearances (all in relief) were the third most by an OSU pitcher in a single season in program history. He finished with five wins, two saves and a 2.61 ERA.
• Remey Reed and Koda Glover each made 23 appearances and finished with ERAs under 2.00. Reed had three wins and a 1.57 ERA, while Glover collected a pair of wins and five saves and recorded a 1.90 ERA.
