Oklahoma State's Butler Earns Top National Honor

STILLWATER - Oklahoma State director of football operations Mack Butler has been honored as the best in the country in his field, it was announced today.
Butler was selected as FootballScoop's Director of Football Operations of the Year. Finalists were selected based off of nominations by coaches, athletic directors and other athletic department personnel and from a list of finalists that included Florida State's Mark Robinson and Mississippi's Jon Miller, Butler was chosen as the winner by previous winners of the award.
He will be presented with the award at next week's American Football Coaches Association Convention in Louisville.
"Mack does so much for Oklahoma State football and he is an invaluable part of our program," Coach Mike Gundy said. "He is in a position that doesn't get a lot of public attention, but he keeps us organized in so many areas. He consistently goes well above and beyond what would be considered normal and his knowledge and positive energy and personality are a big asset to our entire organization. We are proud to see him be recognized with this honor."
Butler is in his second tenure as OSU's director of football operations. He served under Les Miles from 2001-04, then followed Miles to LSU before returning to Stillwater in 2009. He has been part of 18 bowl teams during his career in college football, including a BCS national champion squad in 2007 with LSU.
He has served as a district representative on the Director of Football Operations National Committee since 2007 and is an active contributor to that organization.
"I enjoy being part of the overall coaching profession and have for years, whether in be on the field or in an administrative role," Butler said. "I just want to help with whatever is needed for our team to be the best."
From 1989 to 1999, Butler was an assistant coach at Tulsa before becoming the director of operations for the Golden Hurricane in 2000. Butler first arrived in Stillwater in 2001 to serve as the operations director for Oklahoma State.
He began his career as a high school coach with stops at Stigler, McAlester and Wilburton before joining the staff at Northeastern Oklahoma A&M Junior College, where he served as the secondary coach and recruiting coordinator. While at NEO, he was part of the undefeated 1986 NJCAA national championship team.
During his time in the Oklahoma high school coaching ranks, Butler served as head coach in the 1985 all-state game.
A native of Fairfax, Okla., Butler is an experienced and highly respected administrator, and a member of the Oklahoma Football Coaches Association Hall of Fame. He is a 1972 graduate of the University of Central Oklahoma and earned a master's degree in administration from Southeastern Oklahoma State in 1986.
He and his wife, Jacque, have four children.
