ORLANDO, Fla. -- Oklahoma State soccer's Courtney Dike has been honored with the NCAS PlayMaker of the Month Award for January 2015, it has been announced by the National Consortium for Academics and Sports.
The PlayMaker of the Month Award recognizes the academic achievement and community service efforts of student-athletes at NCAS member institutions. Student-athletes are nominated by their coaches, administrators and teammates and must carry a 3.0 grade point average and be active in community/volunteer services and/or social change advocacy.
"It is a wonderful honor for Courtney to be recognized by the NCAS as the female playmaker of the month," said OSU head coach Colin Carmichael. "This highlights not only Courtney's athletic ability, but also her dedication and hard work in the classroom and community. Courtney is an extremely well-rounded student-athlete, and we are very proud to have her as an important part of our soccer program at Oklahoma State."
A sophomore for Carmichael's Cowgirls, Dike excels both on-and-off the field. She is a two-time All-Big 12 Conference performer who has led OSU to the NCAA Tournament each of the last two seasons and racked up 16 goals along the way. As a freshman, she led the Cowgirls and ranked second in the Big 12 with 13 goals, the fourth-highest single-season total in program history.
In the classroom, the Edmond, Okla. native maintains a 3.9 GPA and was an Academic All-Big 12 First Team and a Capital One Academic All-District 7 Second Team honoree in 2014. She has been named to the OSU President's Honor Roll (4.0 GPA) twice and appeared on the Big 12 Academic Honor Roll two times while also garnering an Arthur Ashe, J. Sports Scholar Award.
Heavily involved in the community, Dike has volunteered for the Special Olympics and Adopt-an-Angel Tree and has helped raise over $1,200 for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. She has also created Thanksgiving Baskets for Stillwater, Okla. residents and is a member of the OSU Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.
Dike, whose parents are natives of Nigeria, is a member of Nigeria's U-20 National Team and helped lead the Falconets to the 2014 FIFA U-20 World Cup final in Canada last summer. She scored a pair of goals in the tourney, including the fastest score in FIFA Women's World Cup history, and was named the 2014 Discovery of the Year at the Nigerian Sports Award.
