Cowboys, Cowgirls Travel to Manhattan for DeLoss Dodds Invitational

STILLWATER, Okla. - The Oklahoma State men's and women's track and field squads will travel to Manhattan, Kan., Saturday to compete at the DeLoss Dodds Invitational in the Ahearn Field House.

Meet Format/Schedule
Originally scheduled to take place over Friday and Saturday, this weekend's meet will now be shortened to a one-day competion. Saturday's action will begin with the weight throw at 11 a.m., and will continue through the afternoon, concluding with the men's 4x400 meter relay.

Last Time Out – Holiday Inn Invitational
Oklahoma State's John Teeters broke the school record in the 60 meter dash for the OSU men's track and field team on Jan. 16, highlighting the team's first day of action at the Holiday Inn Invitational in Lincoln, Neb.
Teeters, a sophomore All-American from Edmond, Okla., charged down the track in 6.54 seconds, a time that ranks first in the nation in NCAA competition this year. The time surpasses the previous school record of 6.64, which was set in 2014.
In the 1,000 meter run, Chad Noelle provided an additional first-place finish for the Cowboys, recording a heat-leading time of 2.27.44.
On the women's side, the 13th-ranked Cowgirls were led by the trio of Kaela Edwards, Clara Nichols and Kaylee Dodd, who finished the 1,000 meter run in first, second and fourth, respectively. Edwards, who appeared as an unattached runner, set a new personal best with her performance (2:50.65), in addition to recording the seventh-best time in school history.
On day two, Chase Ealey recorded a new school record in the shot put. Ealey's monster throw of 16.19m/53-1.5 exceeded the previous record of 16.16m/53-0.25, which was set by Halee Prickett at the KSU All-Corners meet in 2003. That mark gives Ealey the tenth-best mark in NCAA competition this season, while setting a new lifetime best for the junior from Los Alamos, N.M.
The Cowboys continued their success in the sprints category by placing two in the final round of the 60 meter dash on Saturday. After posting top-eight marks in the preliminary section, Arlando Brewer-Johnson (6.92) and Sharod Selph (6.98) finished in sixth and eighth, respectively, in the finals.
Oklahoma State's men's side then provided a first-place finish in the distance medley relay, as Brigham Hedges, Lance Gray, Timauntay Jones and Chad Noelle combined to win the event with a time of 10:00.20.
Coach Dave Smith – Meet Comments
On seeing some fresh faces on the men's side this weekend:
"For some of the guys, like Anthoney Armstrong, Brian Gohlke and Luis Martinez, it's their opener. It's their first chance to kind of knock their rust off, see where they are and see what we need to do training-wise for the bigger meets coming up. Those meets are coming up pretty quickly, so this weekend is a good time to have one low-pressure meet, test it out and see where we are."
On what he expects from the Cowgirls this weekend:
"Savannah Camacho, who was second at the national championships last year, has been dealing with some injury problems, so we've kind of delayed her season until now, but we're excited to see where she's at. We've also got some young girls running for the first time, like Aurora Dybedokken and Abbie Hetherington, and I'm really excited to see where they're at. Jennifer Celis ran really well at our first meet back in December, so she's another young one who we're excited about. Some of our veterans, including Caileigh Glenn and Janelle Martinez, will be back as well, and we've got a litany of sprinters who have had good performances so far. Overall, we've got some pretty high-quality athletes running on the women's side."
Moving On Up
The Oklahoma State women's track and field team earned the No. 13 spot in the USTFCCCA National Preseason Rankings, giving the Cowgirls their highest ranking in school history.
The team's previous high mark came at the conclusion of the 2014 season, when the Cowgirls finished 15th at the NCAA Indoor Championships. At the meet, Savannah Camacho and Kaela Edwards finished second and third, respectively, in the 800 meters, helping Oklahoma State record its best finish ever at the national meet.
The Fastest Man in the Country
Last Friday, Cowboy sprinter John Teeters provided one of the most electrifying performances of the season, as the sophomore ran a 6.54 in the 60 meter dash at the Holiday Inn Invitational, giving him the NCAA's number one mark and a new school record. To put Teeters' time into perspective, his 6.54 would have earned second-place honors at last season's NCAA Indoor Championships, won by Florida State's Dentarius Locke (6.52). Teeters' performance was also only .02 seconds away from landing a spot on the collegiate all-time top 10.
Star in Scotland
On Jan. 10, Oklahoma State cross country standout Cerake Geberkidane finished second in the men's junior race at the Great Edinburgh International Cross Country Meet, helping team USA win its first overall team title at the event.
Geberkidane, a freshman in his first season of collegiate competition, completed the 6K course in 20:07, besting several of the world's elite junior athletes. His second-place effort marked the first of five Americans finishing in the top six, helping Team USA win the junior competition on the way to an overall team title with 121 points.
Oklahoma State was also represented through the efforts of Dave Smith, who served as one of two American coaches. Smith also guided Team USA to team titles in the women's junior competition and the men's senior race.
Miller Smashes Meet Record
Oklahoma State's season-opening appearance at the K-State Winter Invitational was highlighted by one of the Cowboys' most decorated talents; senior Nick Miller. Miller took first in the weight throw with a toss of 22.56m/74-0.25, breaking the previous meet record (21.44m/70-04.25m - Jason Gervais, Wyoming, 1999) by almost four feet.
Rewriting the Record Books
At Oklahoma State's season-opening meet on Dec. 13, the Cowboys and Cowgirls saw success in a wide range of events, earning seven first-place finishes. Even more impressively, eight different members from the two OSU squads entered their names into the school record books.
True freshman Arlando Brewer-Johnson completed the 60 meter dash in 6.91 seconds, giving him the fourth-fastest mark in school history. He also navigated his way to No. 9 on OSU's all-time list of long jump performances, leaping a first-place mark of 6.81m/22-4.25.
In his OSU debut, Richard Smith dominated the triple jump with a mark of 14.25/46-9.0, earning him the fifth-longest leap in Oklahoma State history.
After recording a throw of 17.47/57-3.25 at last season's Big 12 Championships, Itamar Levi improved his indoor best in the shot put with a mark of 17.72m/58-1.75, helping him stay at No. 4 in the record books. Levi also improved his indoor best in the weight throw (15.73m/51-7.25), keeping him at No. 2 on the all-time list.
Charles Kammiller, a sophomore from Derby, Kan., finished just behind Levi in the weight throw category with a mark of 15.48/50-9.5, helping him maintain the third-best toss in school history.
In her collegiate debut, Leah Milteer blazed her way into the record books by recording a time of 7.96 in the 60 meter dash, giving her the ninth-best time in OSU history.
OSU throwing standouts Chase Ealey and Ieva Zarankaite each delivered indoor bests in the shot put. Ealey won the event with a mark of 15.93m/52-3.25, improving her previous high that stands at No. 2 on the all-time list. Zarankaite took third with a throw of 14.61m/47-11.25, earning her the sixth-best throw in school history.
