Lincoln, Neb. - Oklahoma State's John Teeters broke the school record in the 60 meter dash for the OSU men's track and field team on Friday, highlighting the team's first day of action at the Holiday Inn Invitational in Lincoln, Neb.
Teeters, a sophomore All-American from Edmond, Okla., charged down the track in 6.54 seconds, a time that ranks first in the nation in NCAA competition this year. The time surpasses the previous school record of 6.64, which was set in 2014.
“I knew I was going to PR coming into the meet because I knew my body was moving much faster than at outdoors last year, and I was much more familiar with the running technique that I've been working on with Coach Flaquer,” Teeters said. “It's awesome to break records and set national standards, but the important thing from this point on is to finish strong at the conference and national meets.“
Finishing behind Teeters in the 60 meter dash were Sharod Selph (6.94) and Arlando Brewer-Johnson (6.99), giving Oklahoma State a trio of sprinters in tomorrow's preliminary round.
In the 1,000 meter run, Chad Noelle provided an additional first-place finish for the Cowboys, recording a heat-leading time of 2.27.44.
On the women's side, the 13th-ranked Cowgirls were led by the trio of Kaela Edwards, Clara Nichols and Kaylee Dodd, who finished the 1,000 meter run in first, second and fourth, respectively. Edwards, who appeared as an unattached runner, set a new personal best with her performance (2:50.65), in addition to recording the seventh-best time in school history.
The Cowgirls were also aided by efforts from Britney Presley (7.79) and Stephanie Ferrante (7.89), who finished the 60 meter dash in second and ninth, respectively. Presley and Ferrante will advance to tomorrow's preliminary action with teammate Sarah Robinson, who finished 13th (9.60) in the 60 meter hurdles.
Both squads will be back in action tomorrow, with day two of the Holiday Inn Invitational beginning at 11 a.m.
